Join at the Artists League of the Sandhills for an art lecture on The Last Paintings of Vincent Van Gogh, presented by Ellen Burke on Wednesday, August 21st | 2pm-3pm.

“A study in duality, Vincent Van Gogh was in a mental crisis when he created some of his most inspired paintings. The Cypress tree: in art history thought to represent death and eternal life, may have seemed a spiritual companion for van Gogh in his time of need. In writing to his brother Theo, Vincent expressed “the consolation of trees” and he devoted the same all-consuming fervent energy to the Cypress tree that he had given to his sunflowers. Join us as we examine the duality of van Gogh, his despair and hope, his crisis and brilliance, through his last paintings, letters and drawings.”
