Children’s Holiday Pottery Making Series: Critters, Ornaments, Trinket Dishes & Christmas Trees
Kids just want to make Pottery, and this Class Series with Jean Skipper at ARTworks Vass is a great place for them to start! The memories and the hand-built pottery pieces that they create are sure to be as unique as they are, and they’d make great holiday gifts too. School Aged Children are invited to join Jean for 4 Sessions of Hand Built Pottery Making and Glazing. Class will be held from 3:00pm-5:00pm on Wednesdays, 11/6, 11/13, 11/20 and 12/4.
Session 1- 11/6: Begin with an introduction and tour of the ARTworks Vass Pottery Studio, with an emphasis on materials, best practices for safety, and the keys to success in pottery making. Guests will learn about the safe operation of our slab roller and will practice handling and texturing clay. They’ll learn how Jean makes her Signature Critters and Creatures from a pinch pot form, and they’ll create their own Snowman or Creature of their choice.
Session 2- 11/13: Guests will learn the process for two dimensional slab construction, and they’ll each create three of their own custom pottery ornaments and a small trinket dish.
Session 3- 11/20: Guests will learn more about the process of Slab Construction, and they’ll each finish class with their own one-of-a-kind Decorated Christmas Tree that’s sure to become a family heirloom.
Session 4- 12/4: Decorating Day! Work from previous sessions will have been kilned fired for the first time, and it will be ready and waiting to be glazed. Glazed pieces will be kiln fired one more time, and work will be ready to pick up in time for Christmas.
