Join as the Moore County Historical Association is hosting a lecture at the Southern Pines Civic Club on Sunday, November 19th | 3pm-4pm. The special guest speaker will be Amanda Bryant who is the site manager at the Alston House for the Division of State Historic Sites and Properties under the NC Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.

The lecture is “The Best Defense We Can” The Fight at the House in the Horseshoe. The fight at the house on July 29, 1781, was between Patriot forces under Phillip Alston and Loyalist militia under Tory, David Fanning. It was precipitated by the brutal death of Loyalist Kenneth Black on land that became Southern Pines. The real hero (heroine) of this story was Alston’s wife, Temperance. Come and find out why!
