Sandhills Repertory Theatre Presents: “The Rodgers and Hammerstein Songbook”

May 18 @ 2:00 pm

$39

Join as Sandhills Repertory Theatre and Michael Pizzi presents “The Rodgers and Hammerstein Songbook.” Experience the unforgettable and iconic music of Rodgers and Hammerstein, sung by Broadway talent with a 3-piece band. Sandhills Repertory Theatre (SRT) is proud to bring a brand new Rodgers and Hammerstein tribute to the Sunrise Theater! This show will feature songs from nearly all of their shows, mostly familiar but some not so familiar. While their ballads are most often sung, SRT will also offer some fun comic numbers as well!

“Shall we dance?” asks the King of Mrs. Anna in the beloved musical “The King and I”. The audience is swept away with the orchestra swelling as we watch Mrs. Anna’s dress sweep across the floor. Then there is Nellie Forbush taking a full shower onstage in “South Pacific”, the first time in musical theater history anything like that had been attempted, and it won over the audience. Those are just two of the most iconic scenes from those beloved Rodgers and Hammerstein shows.

The audience will truly enjoy “Oklahoma”, “South Pacific”, “The King and I”, “The Sound of Music” and more sung by a cast of three singers and a trio of incredible musicians. Brett Boles returns after his times as music director. Brett has a glorious tenor voice that soars through “Soliloquy” from “Carousel” and “Younger than Springtime” from “South Pacific”. Crystal Kellogg, direct from Broadway, gloriously sang the role of Julie Jordan in the musical “Carousel” produced and directed by Michael Pizzi, the founder of SRT. Crystal’s lovely soprano will captivate you in songs such as “Money isn’t Everything” from “Allegro” and “The Sound of Music” from that very show. Crystal has performed often on Broadway and throughout the country in many leading roles. She and Brett also perform some incredible and iconic duets from “Cinderella”, “Carousel”, “The King and I” and many others. Michael Pizzi will join them for several numbers, singing ballads and comic numbers.

Finally, you will once again be entranced by music direction and piano accompaniment by John Fischer, who you saw with “Taylor/King” and “Tiny Giants” at the Sunrise. Rounding out the band are Larry Arnold on bass and Stephen Hambright on percussion.

Performances take place Saturday, May 17th at 5:00pm & 8:00pm and Sunday, May 18th at 2:00pm at the Sunrise Theater in Southern Pines. Tickets are $39 and can be purchased at the Sunrise box office. 10% of net profits will be donated to the Food Bank of NC. To purchase tickets online, CLICK HERE.
