“The Engaged Brains Project” Free Community Meeting
April 23 @ 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm
FREEJoin free monthly community meetings of The Engaged Brains Project, supported by the Reid Fellowship for Healthcare Transformation at The Foundation of FirstHealth. Led by Neuropsychologist Karen D. Sullivan, PhD, ABPP, and Occupational Therapist Teepa Snow with her Positive Approach to Care® team, this project addresses the isolation and lack of education, training, and resources for those affected by dementia. Through a community-focused, person-centered approach, we aim to reduce distress and disability linked to dementia.
“Using a philosophy of radical engagement, we will provide a one-year, public training program in the Village of Pinehurst, NC to increase dementia knowledge, care skills and support with the goal of CULTURE CHANGE in dementia care. We are determined to reduce the social stigma of brain health challenges, increase access for an early and accurate dementia diagnosis, and train all direct care dementia providers in person-centered care. We will then measure the impact of our efforts using healthcare-system data analytics from FirstHealth of the Carolinas and share our results with the world.”
The goal is to modernize dementia care with community and philanthropic support. Brain healthy snacks provided by The Foundation of FirstHealth. All are welcome to join person-centered dementia education and skills training with Dr. Sullivan and special guests, free of charge. Meetings take place the fourth Wednesday of each month | 2:30pm-4:00pm (September 2024-September 2025) at the Community Presbyterian Church in Pinehurst.
