Weymouth Center: “The Carpenters: A Weymouth Family” Exhibit

October 4 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

FREE

On display now! Visit Weymouth Center for the Arts & Humanities’ temporary exhibit “The Carpenters: A Weymouth Family” in the Boyd House historic entryway. The exhibit is currently on display through February 28th, 2025.

The Carpenters: A Weymouth Family features the story of Flossie and Cicero Carpenter who worked for the Boyds at Weymouth. Cicero worked with the horses and hounds on the property while Flossie supported the household. The lives of Cicero Carpenter and Flossie Graham Carpenter in their service to the Boyd Family reflects a typical role African American men and women assumed out of economic necessity during the Jim Crow period. The Carpenter family was entwined with the Boyds and with the Weymouth estate. Their story remains part of this house and continues to be told to those who visit.

The “Better Than You Found It: The Legacy of James and Katharine Boyd” exhibit is permanent. This exhibit features artifacts from Weymouth Center’s collection such as James Boyd’s World War I helmet and Katharine Boyd’s personal desk. Each room in the Boyd House tells a piece of the story of the home and the family who lived. The North Carolina Literary Hall of Fame is located on the second floor of the house.

Weymouth Center is open to the public Monday-Friday |10am-4pm. For more information, CLICK HERE.
