Join as Weymouth Woods and the Sandhills Natural History Society are hosting a Butterfly Monitoring Workshop on Wednesday, August 9th | 10am-12pm. The workshop is led by Jeff Pippen. After instruction, Jeff will lead a field demonstration of a monitoring effort in the park. Participants will actively engage in sighting butterflies, identifying individuals to species and will learn how to record relevant data. This information will be submitted to the Carolinas Butterfly database for tracking species distribution, abundance and seasonal activity. Participants will also have an opportunity to sign up as a member of the program monitoring team and select an area for conducting future monitoring. The workshop is part of the Carolinas Butterfly Monitoring Program currently underway in North Carolina and South Carolina. It is a citizen science-based program established to track butterfly populations using simple scientific protocols.
