Weymouth Woods Sandhills Nature Preserve presents the Party for the Pine 2025! Celebrate the 477th birthday of the oldest known living longleaf pine in the world on Saturday, April 5th | 10am-3pm! Join in the celebration for a family-friendly afternoon with a guided hike to the pine, animals, games and watch a live demonstration prescribed burn (weather permitting)! There will be arts & crafts vendors and food trucks on site for the fun. Learn about the unique longleaf forest ecosystem and the role that fire plays in keeping it healthy as you talk with conservation experts and wildlife educators. See how tar, pitch, and turpentine were made from pine resin, and why we’re known as the Tar Heel State. The event is free and open to the public. Park at Weymouth Center.
