They faced a monumental task. It is estimated that the city of Florence alone contains approximately 10% of the world’s art treasures. In order to protect Michelangelo’s David\, and his other statues along the corridor\, the Accademia in Florence encased the statue in brick. We will look at the trials\, tribulations\, and successes of the Monuments Men in Italy. \nLECTURER: Abbe Allen is a retired professor of history\, political science\, & art history from Sandhills Community College. Prior to moving to Whispering Pines\, she was an adjunct instructor in the humanities at Columbus State Community College & a docent at the Columbus Museum of Art. DESCRIPTION:🌿 No dirt\, no drama—just hot glass and a blown glass air plant hangout with local glass artist Wayne Manning on Sunday\, April 18th at 3:00. \nIn this hands-on workshop\, you’ll create a blown glass Air Plant Hangout from an assortment of color combinations. Each piece is truly one-of-a-kind\, and the experience will be just as unforgettable. More than a keepsake—you’ll be making memories to treasure for a lifetime. \nWhat to Expect: \nWayne will guide you step-by-step through the glass blowing process and together you will create your one of a kind glass piece. Glassblowing is a choreographed collaboration. This will be an enjoyable beginner friendly experience and by the end of your session\, you’ll be amazed by what you’ve created! \nAdd a plant stand for $8 at checkout! \nYour glass project will need to cool slowly (anneal). Pick it up a few days after class or arrange shipping for an additional fee. \n*Air Plant not included. \nImportant Information: \n\nNo experience needed—beginners welcome!\nAges 14+ are invited to participate. Students under 14 may be accommodated by special arrangement—text Jean at 910-528-1109 to discuss.\nOne guest per project is allowed.\nClass Length: Allow 60 minutes for your glass-blowing experience.\nAll supplies are included.\nRegistration is non-refundable and cannot be rescheduled.\nDress code: Wear cotton or other natural fiber clothing\, long sleeves\, long pants\, and closed-toe shoes.\nAt ARTworks Vass\, you’re always welcome to bring your own Nibbles and Sips to class.\nYour glass project will need to cool slowly (anneal). Pick it up a few days after class or arrange shipping for an additional fee.\nYou will be notified when your project is ready to pick up.  We will hold it for 90 days with monthly notifications by text or phone.
