In this class\, you will cut and shape glass pieces using vibrant shades handpicked by you. You’ll learn to grind the edges of your glass to smooth perfection and apply copper foil to prepare your project for soldering. \nYour project will come together when Kathy takes your project home to finish with solder\, ensuring a professional\, durable finish. Everything is included. \nClass Highlights: \n\nCut\, grind\, and foil your glass pieces\nWork with a variety of beautiful glass colors\nLearn essential stained glass techniques\n\nNo prior experience needed! Whether you’re a first-timer or looking to sharpen your stained glass skills\, this class will provide you with the tools and techniques to make something truly beautiful. Your project will be finished approximately 1 week after class. You will receive a phone call or text when it’s ready for pick-up. \nKathy has been visiting North Carolina since 1998 and has taken art classes at ARTworks Vass with each visit. Her first experience was a Paverpol sculpture class followed by a stained-glass class—an experience that sparked her love for glass art. Since then\, Kathy has dedicated herself to learning stained glass techniques. The free-form design means no two pieces will ever be the same! You’ll also explore texture techniques to add decorative patterns before choosing from a selection of studio glazes to finish your piece. \nThis class is perfect for beginners and experienced clay lovers alike. DESCRIPTION:Join Beth Roy for a 3-session beginning acrylic painting classes that will strengthen your skills\, spark your creativity\, and bring joy to your studio practice. \nWhen: Wednesdays\, April 29th\, May 27th and June 24th \nTime: 1:00-5:00 \nIncludes: Expert feedback that is constructive\, actionable and supportive\, plenty of time to paint in a relaxed environment\, and all necessary materials although you are welcome to bring your favorite tools\, supplies and paints. \nPrice: $249 for all three sessions \nThese small group sessions\, limited to 6 students\, focuses on technique\, color theory\, composition\, and personal expression — all tailored to your individual goals and experience level. \n\nApril 29: Painting fundamentals that include quick exercises\nMay 27: Start the class painting\nJune 24: Finish the painting and start another if time an allows.\n\nWhether you’re a beginner looking to learn the basics or a more experienced painter craving new inspiration and structure\, this painting class is for you. \nAbout Beth Roy \nGrowing up in rural Michigan\, artist Beth Roy acquired the foundation that allows her paintings to come to life today. She began riding horses at an early age and her life-long relationship with them has allowed her to translate them beautifully in her work. Body language is also a critical component of Beth’s compositions and using the subtlest of nuances\, she strives to capture the personality of animals and people in her work. \n  \nProfessionally\, Beth studied art at Austin Peay State College\, and Christopher Newport College. She has won several regional awards and her work is currently represented in Beaufort\, Southern Pines\, and Vass\, North Carolina. By the end of class\, you’ll have created several small bowls\, dishes\, or similar masterpieces. \nImportant Info for First-Timers \nThis class is designed especially for beginners or those looking to refine their wheel-throwing technique. We encourage you to come with realistic expectations and a curious\, beginner’s mindset. \nNew to Clay? \nIf you’ve never touched clay before\, we highly recommend trying one of our hand-building classes first. These offer a great introduction to the feel of clay and how to manipulate it. They’re also perfect for creating beautiful\, larger-scale projects with a high rate of success—even for first-timers! \nAbout the Learning Process: \nIt’s important to know: no one sits down at the wheel for the first time and magically creates a big\, beautiful bowl. Wheel throwing is a skill that develops over time\, and every class builds on the one before it. Celebrate your progress—it’s a true sign of success! \nGet Ready to Get Messy! \n\nWear comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. (Clay washes out easily!)\nAn apron is optional but helpful.\nTie back long hair and remove rings and bracelets.\nShort nails are best—but not required.\n\nWhat to Expect \n\nThis class last 3 hours: 2.5 hours of instruction and 30 minutes of cleanup. It is a wonderful way to enjoy the therapeutic benefits of gardening while connecting with others. \nIn addition to the hands-on activities\, there are several ways for the community to show support for the Still Us Foundation. Fresh Mother’s Day bouquets will be available for a $10 donation. There is also a raffle for a stunning piece of stained glass garden art\, handcrafted by artist Diane Flanegan. These interactive workshops\, held on Thursdays from 6:30PM-9:00PM throughout March and April\, allow students to pick\, cut\, and foil their own glass while Diane assists with the soldering process. \nThe six-class series features unique projects ranging from a stained glass succulent and flower to a glass mosaic tray and a stained glass sunflower. For $70 per class\, participants are provided with all necessary tools and supplies\, though they are asked to wear closed-toed shoes and may bring their own apron.
