Visitors can also see a mahogany battlefield cross sculpted by female veteran artist Alicia Dietz displayed in front of the flag. This powerful symbol of sacrifice and honor serves to raise awareness and provides a space for the community to witness a rise in remembrance for our nation’s heroes. \nTags are in alphabetical order ranging from September 11th\, 2001-December 31st\, 2019; thereafter the tags are in chronological order of the date Killed in Action (KIA).

The black granite pedestal of the centerpiece is inscribed with the five branches of the military. The flags flown include the U.S. flag\, the North Carolina flag\, and Prisoner of War (POW) flag. You are invited to attend and honor those who sacrificed so much for our community and country.”
