DESCRIPTION:Kids love to make art\, and our campers are sure to love every minute of our week-long Mixed Media Art Camps at ARTworks Vass! \nParents love how much we love their children\, the manner in which we accommodate special requests\, and that so many of the projects that we’ll make are of such a quality that they will be treasured for years or even a lifetime. \nMixed Media Creative Kids Art Camp\, from July 27th through July 31st\, will focus on Fused Glass\, Hand Built Pottery\, Fiber Art\, Two Dimensional Art and Ceramics. \nWhile you’ll notice that our Mixed Media Art Camps are offered several times this summer\, each will provide a unique experience with a variety of projects in each of these mediums. We always have a few surprises up our sleeves to keep things interesting too! \nYour Children will have more fun than you can possibly imagine as they build confidence\, develop skills\, and enjoy the camraderie of their new friends in our creative classes. \nWe enter each camp week with a well-planned curriculum that includes a ton of variety for your Children. We also allow room for flexibility to adjust our camp schedule and our camp projects based on the needs and preferences of the registered guests in attendance. \nSchedule for Full Day Campers \n\nCamp will be held Monday through Friday.\nDrop Off will be from 8:45 until 9:00.\nMorning Sessions will be from 9:00 until 12:00.\nLunch will be from 12:00 until 1:00.\nAfternoon sessions will be from 1:00 until 4:00.\nPickup will be at 4:00.\n\nSchedule for Morning Only Campers \n\nCamp will be held Monday through Friday.\nDrop-off will be from 8:45 until 9:00.\nMorning Sessions will be from 9:00 until 12:00.\nPickup will be at 12:00.\n\nSchedule for Afternoon Only Campers \n\nCamp will be held Monday through Friday.\nDrop Off will be from 12:45 until 1:00.\nAfternoon sessions will be from 1:00 until 4:00.\nPickup will be at 4:00.\n\nIf you need to arrange early drop off or pick up for your Campers\, please text the specific details of your request to ARTworks Vass Owner\, Jean Skipper\, at 910-528-1109 before registering. You will design and construct a lidded canister similar in style to the sample shown\, featuring textured surfaces\, carved designs\, and a custom-fitted lid.\n\nUsing slab-building techniques\, you’ll learn how to form a cylindrical vessel\, create a matching lid\, and add decorative elements through carving\, stamping\, and texturing. Whether you prefer elegant swirls\, geometric patterns\, florals\, nature-inspired motifs\, or something completely unique\, you’ll have plenty of creative freedom to make your piece your own.\n\nOnce completed\, you’ll select a glaze color from our available options. The glaze will highlight the texture and carving details\, creating a beautiful finished piece that is perfect for storing coffee\, tea\, cookies\, pet treats\, cotton balls\, or other treasures.\n\nNo pottery experience is necessary.\n\nAfter class\, Beth will carefully dry\, kiln fire\, glaze\, and kiln fire your work again. Finished items will be ready for pickup about 4 weeks after class\, depending on drying time and humidity. In this beginner-friendly workshop\, Beth will guide you through the fundamentals—centering clay on the wheel\, forming a cylinder\, trimming the “skirt\,” and cutting your piece from the wheel. By the end of class\, you’ll have created several small bowls\, dishes\, or similar masterpieces.\n\nImportant Info for First-Timers\n\nThis class is designed especially for beginners or those looking to refine their wheel-throwing technique. We encourage you to come with realistic expectations and a curious\, beginner’s mindset.\n\nNew to Clay?\n\nIf you’ve never touched clay before\, we highly recommend trying one of our hand-building classes first. These offer a great introduction to the feel of clay and how to manipulate it. They’re also perfect for creating beautiful\, larger-scale projects with a high rate of success—even for first-timers!\n\nAbout the Learning Process:\n\nIt’s important to know: no one sits down at the wheel for the first time and magically creates a big\, beautiful bowl. Wheel throwing is a skill that develops over time\, and every class builds on the one before it. Celebrate your progress—it’s a true sign of success!\n\nGet Ready to Get Messy!\n\n 	Wear comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. (Clay washes out easily!)\n 	An apron is optional but helpful.\n 	Tie back long hair and remove rings and bracelets.\n 	Short nails are best—but not required.\n\nWhat to Expect\n\n 	This class last 3 hours: 2.5 hours of instruction and 30 minutes of cleanup. As potters in a community studio\, we strive to leave our work space better than we found it.\n 	To ensure plenty of personal instruction\, this class is limited to 6 students—1 student per wheel.\n 	You’ll create 2–4 small pieces\, such as bowls\, coasters\, or spoon rests. As you grow your skills\, your pieces will grow in size\, too!\n 	After class\, Beth will trim\, dry and bisque fire your pieces. Next she will glaze and kiln fire them again. This process can take up to 4 weeks\, depending on drying time and humidity.\n 	We’ll notify you when your pottery is ready for pickup. Your kit will include the essential tools needed for wet felting so you can continue creating projects long after class ends. \nWe’ll begin on Wednesday\, July 1st from 4:00 to 7:00 by creating three beautiful stemmed wet felted flowers while learning the foundational skills of wet felting. This beginner-friendly class is the perfect introduction to layering\, shaping\, and forming wool fibers. During this class\, we’ll also discuss the different types of handles and finishing options available for your August project so your chosen handles can be ready for you at the second session. \nThen\, on Wednesday\, August 5th from 4 PM to 7 PM\, we’ll build on those skills as we create larger wet felted balloon vessels. You will have several options for your final project including creating a felted bag\, flower pot cover\, or decorative vessel. \nWet felting is VERY different from needle felting\, so come prepared to get wet and soapy!
