DESCRIPTION:The Emerging Artist Gallery at the MANN Center for the Arts celebrates the diverse artwork of North Carolina. Up and coming artists and their work are presented to a regional audience in a professional setting. \nWhat is an Emerging Artist? An Emerging Artist is one who is early in their art career\, has limited experience exhibiting\, and seeks to further their creative work. Emerging Artists generally do not have an established resume of exhibitions\, but may have participated in group shows\, fairs and art competitions\, or art auctions. Candidates may not be professionally employed as a working artist. Please refer to the Prospectus for eligibility criteria. \nHow does our Gallery work? The Gallery collects applications from North Carolina artists who meet the entry criteria. Accepted artists are curated in for a two-month exhibition including an artist reception\, opportunity for an artist talk\, and promotional benefits through press releases and print/digital marketing. There is no cost to the artist to apply for this opportunity. \nArtwork is available for purchase with proceeds benefiting the artist and the MANN Center for the Arts. The event runs from 10:00AM-3:00PM at 125 Everette Road in Pinehurst\, and guests are welcome to drop by at any time throughout the day. \nParticipants will have the opportunity to create beautiful Mother’s Day bouquets for themselves or for others in the community. Fresh cut flowers\, decorative containers\, and ribbons will be provided at no cost\, and volunteers will be on hand to offer assistance with the arrangements. It is a wonderful way to enjoy the therapeutic benefits of gardening while connecting with others. \nIn addition to the hands-on activities\, there are several ways for the community to show support for the Still Us Foundation. Fresh Mother’s Day bouquets will be available for a $10 donation. There is also a raffle for a stunning piece of stained glass garden art\, handcrafted by artist Diane Flanegan. Raffle tickets are available for $10 each or three for $25\, with the drawing taking place on Saturday\, May 9th. All proceeds from the day benefit the Still Us Foundation.

DESCRIPTION:The U.S. Army Airborne & Special Operations Museum is hosting the traveling Global War on Terror (GWOT) Memorial Flag in its Reflection Garden from May 3rd-May 22rd. This moving tribute\, standing 6 feet tall and 28 feet wide\, honors approximately 7\,000 fallen heroes and Gold Star Families through a design that mimics a flag draped over a service member’s casket. \nThe memorial is composed of nearly 7\,000 dog tags—arranged alphabetically through 2019 and chronologically thereafter—and includes 50 gold stars recognizing Gold Star Families nationwide. Visitors can also see a mahogany battlefield cross sculpted by female veteran artist Alicia Dietz displayed in front of the flag. This powerful symbol of sacrifice and honor serves to raise awareness and provides a space for the community to witness a rise in remembrance for our nation’s heroes. \nTags are in alphabetical order ranging from September 11th\, 2001-December 31st\, 2019; thereafter the tags are in chronological order of the date Killed in Action (KIA).
