DESCRIPTION:The U.S. Army Airborne & Special Operations Museum is hosting the traveling Global War on Terror (GWOT) Memorial Flag in its Reflection Garden from May 3rd-May 22rd. This moving tribute\, standing 6 feet tall and 28 feet wide\, honors approximately 7\,000 fallen heroes and Gold Star Families through a design that mimics a flag draped over a service member’s casket. \nThe memorial is composed of nearly 7\,000 dog tags—arranged alphabetically through 2019 and chronologically thereafter—and includes 50 gold stars recognizing Gold Star Families nationwide. Visitors can also see a mahogany battlefield cross sculpted by female veteran artist Alicia Dietz displayed in front of the flag. This powerful symbol of sacrifice and honor serves to raise awareness and provides a space for the community to witness a rise in remembrance for our nation’s heroes. \nTags are in alphabetical order ranging from September 11th\, 2001-December 31st\, 2019; thereafter the tags are in chronological order of the date Killed in Action (KIA).

DESCRIPTION:The 2026 Laurelfest arrives in Laurel Hill at 14940 Church St. for two days of family-friendly fun on Friday\, May 8th & Saturday\, May 9th! This annual community festival is packed with live performances\, food\, local vendors\, shopping\, bounce houses\, and games. \nFriday 12PM-9PM\nSaturday 9AM-6PM \nThe event features an extensive entertainment lineup starting with an Opening Ceremony at 9:00AM\, followed by the Triple Toe Cloggers at 10:00AM\, Fierce at 10:30AM\, and the No Limit Linedancers at 11:00AM. \nMusical acts continue throughout the day with Anna J from 11:30AM-1:00PM\, the Blewett Dam Band from 1:00PM-2:45PM\, and Beach Fever closing from 3:15PM-6:00PM. \nAdditionally\, the SHS Beta Club Car Show will be collaborating with the festival as a fundraiser for their trip to Nationals; interested parties can contact Joe Graves for car show details or visit the LaurelFest Laurel Hill NC Facebook page for more information.

Circuit Wednesdays 1pm: Parkinson’s Wellness Recovery class that utilizes exercise stations to promote large amplitude\, high effort and attention to action using an array of exercise equipment. These exercises increase motor control and repetitive effort within time restraints at each exercise station. \nPWR! Group Fridays 1pm: Parkinson’s Wellness Recovery class that focus on movements that promote large amplitude\, high effort and attention to action from multiple positions (prone\, supine\, all 4’s and standing).\nThese exercises help to increase motor control with sustained and repetitive effort while also promoting better balance. \nOnce the above items are complete\, class assignment will be based on assessments and screenings. \nClass is limited to 10\, so please complete the above items in advance to ensure your spot in the classes.
