Through this meaningful project\, we had the privilege of meeting with local families to help share the stories of loved ones who proudly served our country. Memorial Day Walk in the Gardens honors the service\, sacrifice\, and experiences of local veterans through a series of featured stories presented in the Memorial Day gazebo at the Sandhills Horticultural Gardens!\nVisit the gardens\, take a peaceful walk\, and discover the veterans tribute signs placed in the central part of the gardens near the gazebo and creek. Each sign includes a QR code that allows visitors to hear personal stories shared by family members — remembering not only the service of these veterans\, but also the lives they lived and the legacy they left behind. Explore photographs\, biographies\, and personal reflections that highlight the lives and military service of these individuals while connecting remembrance with the peaceful setting of the gardens. Inside the gazebo\, photographs of each veteran are paired with QR codes linking visitors to extended stories and video interviews. These videos provide a deeper look into each veteran’s experiences\, service\, and connection to the community.\nWe extend our deepest gratitude to all service members and their families — especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. It is our hope that this tribute not only honors these heroes but also inspires more families to share their stories so this project can continue to grow in the future. The display will be on view through Sunday\, June 14th. \n \n

The collection will remain on public display through Saturday\, June 6th. \nGallery Hours: Monday-Saturday\, 9AM-5PM \n“My work begins from a kind of searching\, feeling for something real\, something meaty. My surroundings are my source material. The natural and architectural patterns and details of North Carolina shape my forms and designs. Inspired by the ancient craft of terrazzo\, I gather and repurpose aggregates – brick\, stone\, and other fragments – to embed within my concrete work. These scraps of materials\, mined from local building projects\, scavenged along the coastline\, and salvaged from a beloved property being sold\, are fragmented mementos. They tell tales and preserve a subtle storyline of place and relationship. By creating objects for rest from steel\, concrete\, and rubble\, I explore how furniture can embody both repose and restlessness\, ornament and decay. What emerges are not just places to sit\, but objects that hold memory and tension; grounded in their surroundings\, materially honest\, and unmistakably alive.”

Group Fridays 1pm: Parkinson’s Wellness Recovery class that focus on movements that promote large amplitude\, high effort and attention to action from multiple positions (prone\, supine\, all 4’s and standing).\nThese exercises help to increase motor control with sustained and repetitive effort while also promoting better balance. \nOnce the above items are complete\, class assignment will be based on assessments and screenings. \nClass is limited to 10\, so please complete the above items in advance to ensure your spot in the classes.
