SUMMARY:Beginning Wheel Throwing Pottery Class with Marie the Potter
DESCRIPTION:Join Marie the Potter on Sunday\, March 22nd from 11:00AM-2:00PM as she teaches you how to center clay on a wheel\, how to form a cylinder\, cut the skirt off and cut the piece from the wheel. Ultimately\, you’ll make several small bowls or dishes. \nImportant Information About This Class: This class was designed with beginners in mind\, and those wishing to improve their wheel throwing skills. We hope that the information that follows will help you to approach it with realistic expectations and a hopeful beginners mindset. If you’ve never ever touched clay previously\, we highly recommend that you join us for one of our hand building classes before trying wheel throwing. They’ll provide you with a feel for clay and the manners in which we manipulate it. These classes also ensure successful beautiful larger scale projects to most everyone who attends them. No one easily creates big beautiful bowls when they sit down at the wheel for the first time. It’s a process\, and it takes time to master it. The skills that you learn in each class will build on one another\, and we encourage you to embrace this progress as a measure of your success. \nAfter class\, Marie will finish each piece that you create. They’ll be trimmed\, dried\, fired in our kiln\, glazed\, dried\, and fired in our kiln again. This entire process can take approximately 4 weeks depending on the humidity level and the time that it takes your pottery to thoroughly dry between kiln firings. We’ll update you by phone or text when your pottery is ready for pickup. Finished classwork must be picked up within 90 days of notification that it’s ready. At the end of 90 days\, student projects will be disposed of at the gallery’s discretion. \nTo allow the most individualized attention possible\, class size is limited to 6 students\, 1 per wheel. You’ll then have plenty of time to create your own blooming masterpiece with Beth’s guidance. \nSupplies: Beth will provide paint\, paper\, brushes and palettes. By the end of class\, you’ll have created several small bowls\, dishes\, or similar masterpieces. \nImportant Info for First-Timers \nThis class is designed especially for beginners or those looking to refine their wheel-throwing technique. We encourage you to come with realistic expectations and a curious\, beginner’s mindset. \nNew to Clay? \nIf you’ve never touched clay before\, we highly recommend trying one of our hand-building classes first. These offer a great introduction to the feel of clay and how to manipulate it. They’re also perfect for creating beautiful\, larger-scale projects with a high rate of success—even for first-timers! \nAbout the Learning Process: \nIt’s important to know: no one sits down at the wheel for the first time and magically creates a big\, beautiful bowl. Wheel throwing is a skill that develops over time\, and every class builds on the one before it. Celebrate your progress—it’s a true sign of success! \nGet Ready to Get Messy! \n\nWear comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. DESCRIPTION:Meet two amazing fiber artists at ARTWorks Vass Hillery Leebert and Melanie Hindmarsh on Saturday\, January 24th from 10:00am-2:00pm. \nHillery Leebert guides students through the process of creating their own beautiful woven pieces of art\, using a variety of natural fibers and creative stitches in her hands-on workshops. \nMelanie Hindmarsh is a life-long crafter who uses the sewing machine and hand stitching to create unique one-of-a-kind fabric items you will be proud to call your own. Both fabric artists will display their current work and demonstrate the relaxing rhythm and creative joy of experimenting with fiber arts. \nThe “Meet Our Artists” series of events at ARTworks Vass is designed to provide guests with an opportunity to chat with our featured artists\, glimpse at their tools-of-their-trade and learn more about their creative processes. No two trays are ever alike\, and you’ll be amazed by the movement\, depth\, and shine you can achieve. \nLaura will guide you step by step as you learn how to combine epoxy resin with vibrant mica powders and pigments from her collection to build color and dimension. She’ll also demonstrate her popular Ocean Waves technique\, showing you how to use a heat gun to gently move the resin to form ocean waves. \nIncluded: \n\nEpoxy resin and a wide assortment of colorants\nA wood tray\, pre-painted black\nTray size: approximately 13″ x 10″ x 2.5″\nExpert instruction\n\nNote: If you’d prefer a different exterior color or would like to bring your own tray\, simply indicate your preference at registration.
