Ready to play the most artistic game of chess ever? Join us for this hands-on pottery class on Wednesday, May 6th at 5:30 with Marie the Potter where you’ll create your very own full clay chess set—no experience needed, just a love for creativity (and maybe a little strategy 😉).

In this 2-session workshop, you’ll hand-build all 32 pieces—from regal kings and queens to charming pawns—bringing personality and character to every piece. Whether you lean classic or whimsical, your set will be uniquely yours.

What to Expect:

• Learn essential hand-building techniques including pinch and sculpting methods
• Create all chess pieces: king, queen, bishops, knights, rooks, and pawns
• Explore design details and textures to give each piece its own flair
• Guidance on keeping your pieces balanced, proportional, and game-ready
• Finish your set with your choice of glaze colors during a follow-up session
• Second session is Wednesday, May 13th at 5:30

This entire process can take up to 4 weeks, depending on the humidity level, and the time that it takes pottery to thoroughly dry between kiln firings. We’ll update you again when your pottery is ready for pickup.

• Beginners are welcome.
• Dress to mess or bring an apron.
• Children age 14 and older may attend class independently.
• Children under age 14 may join us in class, as long as an adult is registering for class with them too.
• Registrations are non-refundable and cannot be rescheduled
• Registration allows for 1 person per class. Only those who have registered may participate.
• Class starts promptly as scheduled.
• At ARTworks Vass, you’re always welcome to bring your own Nibbles and Sips to class.
• You will be notified when your project is ready to pick up.  We will hold it for 90 days with monthly notifications by text or phone. If you haven’t requested an extension or picked up your work within 90 days, your project will be disposed of at the gallery’s discretion.
