September 11 Reflections: Remembering 9/11 in The Pines

Ceremonies, memorials and opportunities to remember, reflect and honor.

Each September 11, communities across our nation pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, honor the courage of first responders and recognize the service and sacrifice of so many in the years that followed.

In 2026, we mark the 25th anniversary of September 11, a significant milestone in our nation’s history.

For those who remember that Tuesday morning, the memories can still feel remarkably close. For younger generations, September 11 is an event learned through family stories, classrooms, photographs and memorials.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to remember.

Remembering September 11, 2001

On the morning of September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in New York City, at the Pentagon in Virginia and aboard United Airlines Flight 93 in Pennsylvania claimed nearly 3,000 lives and forever changed our nation.

We remember those who went to work that morning and never returned home.

We remember the firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency personnel and ordinary citizens who ran toward danger to help others.

We remember the families whose lives changed forever.

We remember the service members who answered the call in the years that followed.

And we remember the countless acts of courage, compassion and kindness shown by people helping one another during an extraordinarily difficult time.

25 Years Later

A quarter-century has passed since September 11, 2001.

The 25th anniversary offers an opportunity not only to remember what happened, but to remember the people behind the history.

It is also an opportunity to share those stories with a generation born after 9/11 and to reflect on the sense of community that emerged in the days that followed.

Neighbors checked on neighbors. Strangers helped strangers. First responders worked around the clock. Communities gathered together.

Those lessons of service, courage, kindness and community remain worth remembering.

September 11 Remembrance Ceremonies & Observances

Throughout The Pines and surrounding communities, local organizations may hold remembrance ceremonies, moments of silence, memorial services, flag displays, bell ceremonies, first responder tributes and community service projects in observance of September 11.

A Moment of Reflection

You do not have to attend a formal ceremony to observe September 11.

Take a quiet moment to remember those who were lost.

Fly the American flag.

Thank a firefighter, law enforcement officer, emergency responder or service member.

Visit a memorial.

Volunteer or perform an act of kindness in your community.

Talk with children and grandchildren about September 11 and help preserve the stories of those who experienced that day.

Sometimes remembrance is simply taking a moment from an otherwise busy day to reflect.

Never Forget

September 11 is ultimately a story about people.

The people who were lost.

The families who continue to carry their memories.

The first responders who ran toward danger.

The strangers who helped one another.

The service members whose lives were shaped by what followed.

And the communities that discovered how much strength can be found when people come together.

We remember. We reflect. We honor.
