Fall has a way of drawing us outdoors. The air cools, pumpkins begin appearing at roadside stands and local farms welcome visitors for corn mazes, hayrides and afternoons spent wandering the fields.
Across Moore, Lee, Hoke and Richmond Counties, fall on the farm can be as simple as stopping for a locally grown pumpkin or as adventurous as finding your way through acres of corn.
We’ve gathered some of the places to enjoy the season close to home, along with a few nearby destinations worth the drive.

1515 NC Highway 211, Eagle Springs, NC
Kalawi Farm has been part of the Moore County landscape for generations. The fourth-generation family farm is perhaps best known locally for fresh produce and Ben’s Homemade Ice Cream, but fall brings another reason to make the drive to Eagle Springs.
The farm’s fall season includes a pumpkin patch, corn maze and hayrides, creating an easy autumn outing for families looking to spend some time outdoors.
Generally,Fall Fun at Kalawi Farm begins the last weekend of September and continues on select dates through the November 1. Open Friday, Saturday & Sundays.
At the farm: Pumpkin patch, corn maze, hayrides, seasonal produce, Ben’s Homemade Ice Cream and family activities.

225 Doby Road, Cameron, NC
Not every fall outing needs a full day of attractions.
Doby Farm in Cameron offers a more traditional local farm stop, with seasonal products and pumpkins available during the fall. Keep an eye out for the different shapes, colors and varieties that make picking a pumpkin half the fun.
It’s a simple way to welcome the season, find something for the front porch and support a Moore County farm along the way.
Pumpkins and other products are seasonal, so check availability before visiting.
1606 Pickett Road, Sanford, NC
For generations, farming has been a way of life at Gross Farms in Sanford. Today, the seventh-generation North Carolina Century Farm invites visitors onto the farm each fall for one of the area’s largest seasonal farm experiences.
At the center of it all is a 10-acre corn maze with more than five miles of pathways and three different puzzles. Beyond the maze, visitors can head to the pumpkin patch, take a hayride and spend time enjoying activities around the farm.
The Corn Maze & Pumpkin Patch operates during the fall season, with additional weekday pumpkin patch hours offered during October.
At the farm: 10-acre corn maze, pumpkin patch, hayrides, maze challenges, children’s activities and plenty of opportunities for fall photographs.
Some fall traditions are worth adding a few extra miles to the afternoon.
Hope Mills, NC
Just outside our primary coverage area, Gallberry Corn Maze in Hope Mills turns the farm into a Fall Harvest Festival each year.
Typicall starts the third weekend in September-November 1, with a corn maze, pumpkins, hayrides, farm animals and other activities spread throughout the farm.
Visitors may also find a barrel train, food trucks, treats and live music on select dates.
It’s an easy addition to the list for families looking for a larger fall farm experience within driving distance of The Pines.
Fall fun on a working farm comes with a few variables. Weather and growing conditions can affect corn mazes, hayrides and pumpkin availability, and popular varieties may become harder to find as Halloween approaches.
Check hours before leaving home, wear comfortable shoes that can handle a little dirt or mud, and look ahead to see whether tickets need to be purchased in advance. Early fall afternoons can still be warm in North Carolina, while evenings can cool down quickly.
And if finding the perfect pumpkin is part of the plan, don’t wait until the last weekend in October.
