The annual Pinehurst Chocolate Festival is a sweet February tradition featuring chocolate baked goods and confections, Valentine’s gifts, hot chocolate, demonstrations, a cake walk, silent auction and more.

The event also supports local charitable organizations, making those chocolate treats taste even sweeter.

Painted Ponies Art Walk

One of the most recognizable signs that spring is on the way is the return of the Painted Ponies.

These creatively decorated horse sculptures transform Downtown Southern Pines into an outdoor art gallery and invite visitors to stroll downtown, admire the artwork and support a good cause.

The Painted Ponies remain on display for several weeks, so you have plenty of opportunities to find a favorite.

Live Theatre at Temple Theatre

February is a particularly good month to visit historic Temple Theatre in Downtown Sanford.

Temple’s winter season brings professional live theatre to the heart of downtown and makes an easy date night or afternoon outing.

For the 2027 season, February performances include War Bonds, followed later in the month by the opening of Red, White & Temple Patriotic Revue.
