Raise a Stein to These Oktoberfest Fun Facts!

A special thank-you to our friends at Static Line Brewing Company for sharing some of these fun Oktoberfest facts with us!

Stronger Brews: Oktoberfest beer is traditionally brewed to be stronger than a standard lager, usually containing between 6% and 7% alcohol.

Dirndl Bow Secrets: The placement of the bow on a traditional Bavarian dirndl apron can signal relationship status. A bow tied on the left generally means single, while one tied on the right means taken. A bow in the center front traditionally represents a young girl or virgin.

September Surprise: Despite its name, Oktoberfest usually begins in September! The celebration was moved earlier to take advantage of September’s longer days and warmer weather.

That’s One Mighty Mug: Oktoberfest beer is traditionally served in a one-liter mug called a Maß. When full, the hefty mug can weigh around five pounds—so carrying several at once is practically an Oktoberfest workout!

The Song You’ll Hear Again…and Again: “Ein Prosit” is one of Oktoberfest’s most frequently played songs. It is a short toast to friendship and good times—and during a festival celebration, you may hear it dozens of times!
