Moore Modernism Talk & Tour: Two Day Celebration with The Pines Preservation Guild

The Pines Preservation Guild invites you to Moore Modernism, a two-day celebration of mid-century modern architecture happening Friday, May 29th & Saturday, May 30th.
Mayberry Modernism Lecture with George Smart: The event begins Friday evening at 6:30PM at the West Southern Pines Center with the “Mayberry Modernism” lecture by US Modernist founder George Smart. Midcentury structures are quickly passing the 50-year historic mark but policymakers and individuals still struggle to consider Modernist houses to be historic. US Modernist founder George Smart shares the story of how his team of volunteers documents thousands of Modernist houses across North Carolina. He outlines the impact of Modernist architecture on Moore County’s built environment and describes the influential architects of the period who called Moore County home. $20-$25
Moore Modernism House Tour: On Saturday from 11:00AM-4:00PM, the celebration continues with a self-guided house tour of six architecturally significant structures across Moore County, including the Hayes Howell-designed West Southern Pines School, the region’s only mid-century building on the National Register of Historic Places. Participants will receive printed maps and historical summaries to guide them through this unique look at the influential architects and designs that shaped the local built environment. $30-$35
