Flow University Invites Young Musicians to Apply for Full-Scholarship Music Leadership Academy
PINEHURST, N.C. — Flow University is now accepting applications for its 2026–27 Music Leadership Academy (MLA), a full-scholarship program designed for exceptional young musicians ages 13–19 who are ready to deepen their artistry, leadership, and personal growth.
Due to continued interest from students, teachers, and families, the application deadline has been extended. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis through September 8, 2026, as space remains available. Auditions and interviews will continue throughout the summer and early September, with the program officially beginning the week of September 14, 2026.
Led by Flow University founder and Carolina Philharmonic Principal Conductor David Michael Wolff, the Music Leadership Academy offers far more than traditional music instruction. The year-long immersive program is designed to develop the whole musician — combining artistic excellence with physical awareness, communication skills, leadership development, and personal expression.
“This is not simply about training better performers,” said Wolff. “We are interested in developing thoughtful, expressive, self-aware young artists who understand how to connect, communicate, and lead through music.”
All students accepted into the program receive full-tuition scholarships.
Throughout the year, MLA students participate in weekly classes held Tuesdays from 4:30–6:15 p.m., along with private lessons, individual coaching, masterclasses, special performances, collaborative projects, and monthly joint sessions with Flow University’s advanced MLA Young Artists program.
Rooted in Flow University’s somatic approach to learning, the program helps students refine technique while reducing physical strain, increasing freedom of movement, and unlocking deeper musical expression and confidence in performance.
The academy is seeking serious young instrumentalists and singers who demonstrate musical proficiency, curiosity, discipline, commitment, and openness to innovative approaches to learning and artistic development.
The application process includes:
- A short essay (up to 600 words)
- Two contrasting audition pieces totaling up to 15 minutes
- One letter of recommendation
There is no application fee.
The Music Leadership Academy follows the success of Flow University’s inaugural pilot program, launched through the generosity of the Van Camp Family Matching Challenge Grant, the Carolina Philharmonic, and community supporters committed to investing in the next generation of young artists.
Several students from the pilot cohort have already advanced into Flow University’s new MLA Young Artists program, an elite next-step opportunity for students demonstrating exceptional artistic promise and growth.
Located at 35 Dowd Circle in Pinehurst, Flow University is an innovative educational organization focused on helping individuals unlock their full potential through somatic learning, music, movement, leadership, and personal development. The Music Leadership Academy serves as one of the organization’s flagship programs and reflects its broader mission to cultivate excellence, awareness, creativity, and service through education.
