Discover the natural beauty of the North Carolina Sandhills at Weymouth Woods Sandhills Nature Preserve in Southern Pines. This peaceful state park protects a remarkable longleaf pine forest, where centuries-old trees tower above winding trails and expanses of wiregrass.

Visitors can explore approximately seven miles of hiking trails while watching for native wildlife such as red-cockaded woodpeckers, fox squirrels and other species that make the Sandhills ecosystem so special. The main Weymouth Woods tract also features a visitor center with educational exhibits, a Discovery Room, an auditorium, a classroom and areas for picnicking.

Weymouth Woods hosts educational programs, guided hikes and community events throughout the year. The park may also accommodate birthdays and other special gatherings; advance coordination, facility reservations or permits may be required.

Day-use admission is free. Pets are welcome outdoors but must remain on an attended leash no longer than six feet and are not permitted inside park buildings. There are no camping facilities at Weymouth Woods.
